Henk.....??

Post by OddBall » Thu Mar 16, 2017 11:17 pm

This showed up on the vintage site, any idea what it is ?
I think it`s a D-444 and the person with it says it`s Brass (maybe)

Looks like the D-424, little brother to the D-426 King of Snares. This model did not have the parallel snare mechanism and was COB with a straight smooth shell; no bead. Page 5 of the 1965 US catalog has a write up on the 424 and the 426. I don't think the throw in the picture above is original, but I could be wrong. My D424 still has the original throw off with the obligatory missing cap to boot!

That`s what`s throwing me off. It has rounded edges and the inside drilling looks factory. Date stamp is March 1970

See this guy on fee bay now. That one pic with the weld looks like somethings a little off about this snare both inside and out.

Good catch. The poster never showed the outside seam, I`ve never see a SONOR metal snare lapped. Wonder if it broke. I didn`t bother to look close at the inside seam but I now see tool marks.

Add the shipping costs and it asking too much for the kind of damage done to it. One of the last places to damage is a seam.

This looks like an early D454, only the shell of the one in the catalog has 2 reinforcement rings in the shell.
