Seems to me that part of the allure of Sonor to us stateside guys, is that that logo is an attention getter. What I mean by that is that when you walk into a bar and see Yamaha, Pearl, or even DW these days, it's not much different than seeing Honda, Toyota and Chevrolet in the parking lot. But when you see Sonor, there is an immediate intrigue.

What I have just said isn't intended to downplay Sonor's excellent quality and craftsmanship; I am simply pointing out that sporting a Sonor drum is a bit akin to being in an exclusive club or having something not just everybody has.

Thomas had to jump ship because Sonor just couldn't support him at the time.

When I lived in the US I used Yamaha; the main reasons were:

1. Sonor in the US was in the toilet and Hohner were shedding well liked and respected people to cut costs. And it was difficult to get new Sonor gear. (Although buying the kit I was playing would be $3000 less in the US than the UK)

2. I know the product specialist for Yamaha USA, and had what I needed within 48 hours.

Brand loyalty is great, and Sonor have been my weapon of choice since 1983. But outside Europe it's a different matter and if I were as busy playing overseas as people such as Thomas and Derek Roddy, I'd be playing Yamaha exclusively. (But with a Sonor snare.............)

I totally understand and get it, still reminds me of that ex girlfriend that left for the ugly guy...
:(
Some of the yammy stuff is quite tasty too :D
