updated - Restoring a teardrop drumset (36 pics)

Post by creal » Sun Jan 29, 2017 8:16 pm

Hi all,
I just bought a teardrop drum set, the shells are 3 plies.
The drums was looking in good condition on the announcements pics.
But the drums was in bad condition at the reception.
The wrap was seriously damaged and crack on many places.
All washer, nuts, and mufflers are rusty.
The bearing edges of the 16" floor tom are also damaged.
the chromes of the hardware are pitting and the hoop are very rusty, particulary with the 16".

The 13" and 20" are stamped 311 (Nov. 1963)
The 16" is stamped 405 (May 64)

So, it's time to start the restoration of this old lady.

I hope you will enjoy the pics.
I will try to add some pics of the restoration process...

Cyril

They look great this way. :o
I know from my own restorations how much work it takes to achieve this, so chapeau. ;)
Just one little comment on the datestamps explanation.
The 13" and 20" are stamped 311 (march 63)
The 16" is stamped 405 (april 65)

311 = Nov. 1963
405 = May 1964
