And the "old fruit" goes on in his battle.
Next step, after grinding and first layer of primer is.....of course e few rounds of the same.
Layers must be as thin as possible, otherwise the sound could be change to much.
It has to look good after it's all done, but not as perfect as is usual nowadays. After all it's an old drum.

Next step, the hardware, a timeconsuming work.
Lugs are made of aluminum and are oxydated, almost black and were grinded ones with to rough grinding paper. So grind (p220 and p400) and than polish, polish and polish again. sadly enough some deeper sraches and the pitting can't be polished till it's vanished

Same procedure for the srews etc.

First step in rebuilding the snare

Next step is to rebuild the double strainer system.
Some parts are missing, so i have to make them myself.

Today i did some work on the strainer system.
It's a little complex because of the dual system.
I took it all apart, cleaned it up and put the "reso" part of the strainer back together and put it on the shell.
Before i did this, i measured and drawed the whole system, because i need some of these parts to "remake" because they're missing on 2 other Sonor Extra drums that i have.(a chrom and a nickl drum, which will appear in a while on this board).
From the strainer system for this drum 1 lever handle is missing and one is broken. I hope i'll find the time to make these 2 handles this week.

Today i spent 3 hours making a new lever for the strainer system.
Here's is how it's made. (sounds familiar

)

First cut out the rough form out of a 2mm. iron plate with a grinder. I took a rusted piece to get the same old cleaned up effect as the original lever.

Shape it more precisely and take of the rust.

Next step. Making a rivet out of a brass srew, because i needed the big flat head.

Last round. Attach it to the strainer part.

And done..........at least for this little part of the project.

Nice project you doing. The design of this snare is of very high standart. Btw, have you tried ultrasonic bath for cleaning of especially small bits?
